Polling began on Wednesday for the elections to the Corporation of the City of Panjim, with voters across the state capital turning out to elect 30 corporators.
The Goa State Election Commission has set up 48 polling booths across Panjim, where voting will continue from 8 am to 5 pm.
A total of 69 candidates are in the fray for the civic polls. Overall, 32,496 voters — including 15,225 men and 17,271 women — are eligible to cast their votes in the election.
The civic election is being closely watched as a key political contest in the capital city. The battle is largely seen as one between the panel backed by Atanasio Monserrate and the panel led by Utpal Parrikar.
With both groups fielding candidates across several wards, the outcome is expected to play a significant role in shaping the political landscape of Panjim’s municipal governance.
