Benaulim NCL MLA Churchill Alemao has demanded that the government urgently takes up the anti-termite treatment and the repair work of the Basilica of Bom Jesus Church at Old Goa. Churchill,  visited the Church recently, said if no proper attention is given to the work now, the Church structure ‘will slowly be destroyed’. “This is a world heritage site and it has to be protected. People from all over the world come to visit the Basilica of Bom Jesus and look at its relics,” said Churchill. “St Francis Xavier has saved Goans from the corona pandemic and also from various calamities that have wreaked havoc across the country. It is our duty to protect our religion and religious structures and I request the Chief Minister to take up my demand” he added.

He has also requested all the ministers, especially the Archives and Archaeology Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar to look into his demand.  Churchill said the present and previous heads of the Basilica are deeply worried.
