PANJIM: With nearly 250 plots being illegally sublet under the 20-Point Programme, the State government on Thursday announced to conduct an inquiry into the said illegality.
Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Revenue, Francis D’Souza informed the House that with the government proposing affordable housing schemes under the Goa Housing Board, the department has no plans to set up a new 20-Point Programme in the State. During Question Hour, Congress MLA Pandurang Madkaikar pointed out that there are over 250 plots which are illegally sublet by actual owners and also 231 vacant plots. “What action does the government intend to initiate against such illegality and will the vacant plots be allotted,” he questioned.
Replying to the same, D’Souza admitted that there is a large amount of illegal subletting of plots and encroachments. “We will conduct an inquiry into such illegalities. This is something serious and needs to be dealt with seriously,” he said.
D’Souza said that under the 20-Point Programme, the Revenue Department has received over thousand applications for vacant plots. “We are yet to decide the criteria on allocation of these plots,” he said.
