PORVORIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has called for an inquiry into the alleged encroachment on government property in Curtorim. The 4-4.5 lakh sq mtrs of land was donated to the government prior to 1961 by an individual for social cause.
“Let us conduct an inquiry into the encroachment on the land, the hill cutting and felling of trees. We will act against the illegal doers and set up what you have suggested,” the CM told the House in the ongoing monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly on Friday.
Sawant was replying to a Private Members’ resolution moved by Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginald Lourenco which read, “This House recommends the Government to use the Leprosarium property in the Curtorim village to establish a well-designed cultural centre, library, mini museum in the name of Padma Bhushan Dr Jose Pereira to be built and managed by the Directorate of Art & Culture to boost cultural, literary and Indological research activities.”
