PANJIM: The State government has re-constituted the Goa State Council for Science and Technology (GSCST) to identify areas in which Science and Technology can be utilized for the achievement of the socio-economic objectives of the government as well as tackling the problems of backwardness, unemployment and poverty.
The 16-member Council with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant as its chairman will also address the problems of rural areas and under privileged sections of society such as Scheduled Castes Scheduled Tribes, landless labour artisans, ‘small/marginal’ farmers and women.
As per the notification released on Thursday, the Council will advise the government on policies and measures necessary to promote Science and Technology and its utilization for achievement of socio-economic objectives.
“It would prepare or assist in the preparation of Science and Technology plans for the State of Goa, advise the government on policies and measures relating to the development and deployment of Science and Technology manpower resources, promote the popularization of Science and the spread of a scientific temper and attitude among the people of Goa and to supplement and compliment the ongoing technical efforts,” reads some of the objectives of the Council.
The objectives also include identifying priority areas of Science and Technology needed for long term development. And to establish or assist in the establishment of the infrastructure, institutes, organizations, etc if require; among others.
The Council would meet periodically and submit the reports to the government to achieve the objectives.
