PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Monday directed the State government to take a decision regarding the recovery of money from Vedanta within eight weeks.
“Today we have filed a petition against Vedanta for recovery of Rs 21,000 crore during the period 31 per cent of ore was extracted by Vendanta. Today the court has said that the petition will be placed before the government and the Chief Secretary for a decision on the matter to be filed in the registry within eight weeks,” said petitioner Claude Alvares.
He added, “Since the petition was filed only against Vedanta, the court has directed that the government would consider the position in respect of all mining lease holders who have mined in this period.”
Goa Foundation had filed a petition before the High Court pleading to direct the authorities to initiate money recovery process against Vedanta. They had also claimed that Vedanta had caused loss of Rs 21,000 crore to the State exchequer.
