MARGAO: Officials of the Legal Metrology, South Goa on Monday raided a trader in helmets at Nuvem and seized around 200 helmets worth Rs 45,000. In another raid at Ambora, the legal metrology officials seized helmets worth Rs 15,000.
Assistant Legal Controller Prasad Shirodkar said the trader was selling the helmets without the mandatory Maximum Retail Price (MRP), name of the manufacturer and batch number. “Our officials had warned the trader to stop selling the helmets in violation of the rules in force. He used to display the helmets on sale along the NH-17 opposite Carmel College”, he said.
Shirodkar said the raid was carried out since the state is witnessing Road Safety Week and that it is an offense to sell helmets without conforming to set standards.
“Legal metrology officials will continue the raids in the days ahead”, he warned, while promising to prosecute the offenders as per law.
