PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Monday directed the State government to submit an affidavit on steps taken to repair potholes and a timeframe to complete the work.
The division bench comprising Justice Mahesh Sonak and Justice Nutan Sardessai is hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Aam Admi Party (AAP) seeking the court’s intervention in the matter, as potholed-ridden roads have been causing major inconvenience to the people.
AAP general secretary Pradeep Padgaonkar, the petitioner in the case, also sought directions to the authorities to ensure that names of the contractors and engineers are displayed at the site of the work. He also urged that the High Court monitor the loss of lives and alleged corruption involved, besides appointing a commissioner to accept complaints from the people.
The State government, Public Works Department, Directors of Municipal Administration and, Panchayats, and the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation have ben made the respondents in the PIL filed last week. The court has adjourned the matter for hearing on October 14.
