BELGAUM: In a bid to prevent bootlegging of illicit Goan liquor in Belgaum during the two-day Holi festival on March 26 and 27, Belgaum Police have issued stringent orders against illegal stocking and sale of liquor for these days.
In a press note, Superintendent of Police Sandeep Patil has stated that police will not spare those found in illegal sale of liquor.
The decision has been taken on the verge of declaration forthcoming elections to the state Assembly which is due on May 5.
“With elections round the corner, there are chances of voters being lured by offering liquor during the celebration of Holi which also poses threat to law and order. Every measure is being initiated to prevent the same and police will come down heavily on those involved in sale of liquor on these days,” SP Patil said.
Meanwhile, elaborate security arrangements and preventive measures have been taken to tackle any untoward situation during Holi. Apart from one Additional SP, an additional police force comprising two DYSPs, 11 CPIs, 23 PSIs, 31 ASIs, 410 constables, six platoons of KSRP and 14 platoons of DAR have been deployed in Belgaum.
