MARGAO: Doctors, nurses, and other Hospicio staff were all geared up to lend their assistance on Thursday noon as victims of food poisoning were shifted to the hospital from Canacona.
While Hospicio dispatched a paediatrician along with a medical officer to Canacona, the remaining medical officers, doctors and other staff were put on alert as a precautionary measure as there was initial news that 26 victims will be shifted to the hospital.
When the first ambulance carrying five students entered the hospital at around 1.12 pm, servants came rushing with stretchers and wheel chairs to carry the victims to the casualty. However, the stretchers came in handy to carry only three students, while the remaining five children walked inside, to be immediately attended by doctors, nurses and medical officers.
Additional Collector, Sandhya Kamat, also walked in at Hospicio, even as District Collector N D Agrawal rushed to the Canacona school to take stock of the situation.
People waiting outside the casualty heaved a sigh of relief at around 12.30 pm when Hospicio Medical Superintendent P Naschinolkar informed that the five students were out of danger. He also announced that no more ambulance carrying the students is coming from since the victims were taken care of at Canacona itself.
