In a major attempt to end the garbage imbroglio dogging the State for so many years, the House Committee on Garbage on Thursday decided to inspect the short-listed sites for garbage disposal.
Resolving to find a solution to the garbage issue, the committee members showed keen interest in finalising the sites during the forthcoming assembly session itself.
The committee will inspect North Goa sites on 24th July and South Goa on 25th July, sources said.
As in the past, there will be two sites one for each district. It may be recalled that during the BJP government, two sites were identified but due to opposition from the people to both the sites, the plans had to be abandoned.
The chief minister Digambar Kamat who heads the committee said the report would be presented to the assembly during the monsoon session.
Among those present for the meeting were Urban Development Minister Joaquim Alemao, Opposition Leader Manohar Parrikar, Education Minister Babush Monserrate, Cumbarjua MLA Pandurang Madkaikar, Quepem MLA Babu Kavlekar, Tivim MLA Nilkant Halarnkar.
The issue of Bainguinim site also came up for discussion. Madkaikar said that the chief minister has already assured that until a decision is taken, no work would begin at the site.
Panjim mayor Caroline Po on the other hand, said that they would utilize around 22,000 sq mt are out of the 1.72 lakh sq mt land for composting stations.
