PANJIM: In the run-up to the upcoming International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2019, Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) Vice- Chairperson Subhash Phal Dessai said that the work to organise this year’s 50th edition is underway in full swing.
He also added that they had recently held a review meeting with Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar.
“40 days are left for IFFI 2019 and majority of the work is almost complete and the remaining work will be completed by October 17. We had a review meeting with Javadekar and a final report will be submitted on October 20,” he added.
He also responded to the controversy surrounding the omission of any Konkani film in the Indian Panorama section at the upcoming International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2019.
“The opposition is trying to confuse filmmakers,” said Dessai, while stating that the national-award winning Konkani film Amori will now be screened at the IFFI Panorama special section. He also informed that there will be an official section for Goan movies, which will be part of the open-air screenings. Venues for the same are at Joggers Park Altinho and Miramar beach.
He also brushed aside speculation on alleged IFFI expenses and pointed out to expenses at other national events held in Goa and added that this year’s expenses will come to Rs 18 crore. ESG will distribute 10 prizes for various categories including childrens’ films.
