PANJIM: The Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) has issued orange alert for August 3, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall with gusty winds upto 50 km per hour at isolated palaces over North and South Goa and yellow alert for the subsequent three days.
“Heavy to very heavy rainfall with strong surface winds gusting upto 50 kmph is very likely at isolated places over North Goa and South Goa districts on August 3, and heavy rainfall with strong surface winds gusting upto 50 kmph is very likely at isolated places over North Goa and South Goa districts on August 4, 5 and 6,” the IMD said.

The State has already received 116.3 inches of seasonal rainfall as against the actual rainfall of 77.2 inches of rainfall, registering a surplus of 50.7 per cent, this year. As far as average rainfall is concerned, it has received 56.0 per cent more rainfall than the normal so far. The average rainfall received so far is 124 inches against the normal rainfall of 79.5 inches.
From June 1 to August 2, Mapusa had received 115.5 inches of rainfall, Pernem 126 inches, Ponda 128 inches, Panjim 116 inches, Old Goa 120 inches, Sanquelim 137 inches, Valpoi 155 inches, Canacona 118 inches, Dabolim 94.76 inches, Margao 118.2 inches, Mormugao107.5 inches, Quepem 132 inches and Sanguem 148. 5 inches of rainfall.
