PONDA: A total of 607 files related to the Forest Rights Act from Dharbandora have been sent to the District Collector’s office for further approval. Only 148 have been granted sanads so far, while around 873 applicants have not filed their applications before the deputy collector yet. The reason being hurdles in attaching some key documents.
Meanwhile, some beneficiaries have expressed disappointment over allotment of limited space to them.

Dharbandora deputy collector Nilesh Dhaigodkar has put in lot of efforts in sorting out the forest rights cases and has moved more than 500 files in the last few months to the South Goa District Collector office for final approval. There are various committees appointed to sort out the cases in the taluka and there are a record number of 1777 applicants in total. However after scrutinising the applications, officials have found double applications while some of them are also faulty. So, the authorised number of applications stands at 148. The committee is yet to move 873 files which are stuck due to lack of some important documents.
Meanwhile, 148 applicants have been granted sanads, but some people have claimed that they have been given less land than that which was promised. Instead of 10,000 sq meters, the sanad holders have been given 3,000 to 4,000 sq meters of land by the survey officials.
“We have been holding meetings over and over again to sort out the cases but many applicants still have not filed the required important documents. So far 148 applicants have been granted sanads and the land,” said deputy collector Dhaigodkar.
Meanwhile, some applicants have claimed that relatives and the karyakartas of politicians have been given land as per the survey, while they were deprived.
