MARGAO: South Goa District Collector and Magistrate Jyoti Kumar has issued a notice to the owners of vehicles lying abandoned in the jurisdiction of Margao town area for a long period of time, warning them that the vehicles will be auctioned if the owners don’t submit their claims for the same.
A list of 32 vehicles with their locations has also been shared by the Collector. The list is available at the office of the Salcete Deputy Collector & Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM).
Eight vehicles in this list sent to the Collector by the South Goa Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) are scrap vehicles.
“The said vehicles are breeding grounds for mosquitoes, which causes rise in vector-borne diseases and thus poses a health hazard to the staff of the police station and also to the general public,” said the Collector.
“In exercise of the powers vested in me under Section 26 of the Indian Police Act, 1861, I call upon all the persons interested in the said vehicles to submit their claims, if any, to the office of the Dy Collector & SDM, Margao, within a period of 6 months from the date of publication of this proclamation,” the District Magistrate added.
“If no objections are received within the stipulated time, the vehicles will be forfeited in favour of the State government and shall be disposed of by public auction as provided under law and no further claims will be entertained from any one and the proceeds will be forfeited to the government,” she added.
The police have identified some of the spots where vehicles have been abandoned as near the KTC bus stand, wholesale fish market, Fire station as well as other areas in Fatorda, Chandrawaddo, Power House Circle, Comba, Malbhat, Khareband, Aquem, Eastern bypass, Navelim, Davorlim and Gogol. Most of these vehicles are in a rundown condition.
It may be recalled that there have been protests by citizens about abandoned vehicles with the common demand for these vehicles to be removed as soon as possible as they were adding to traffic congestion, accidents as well criminal activity.
