VASCO: After a Youtube video showing a electricity department Junior Engineer Vishvesh Bhat(attached to Cortalim division-2 office) demanding a bribe from an applicant went viral on social media, the electricity department officials on Wednesday initiated an inquiry against the Junior engineer.
As per sources in the electricity department, the department of Electricity has taken serious cognizance of the You Tube video that went viral in the social media. In the video a junior engineer, Vishvesh Bhat who looks after Cortalim area is seen negotiating with some unidentified person to pay him the remaining bribe amount as he had duly released the electricity connection to him. The video was taken in the office of Junior Engineer located on the ground floor of Cortalim Panchayat building and the same was posted on social media by anonymous person.
“The Video was posted on You tube on Tuesday night and the same went viral in few hours after which department have initiated inquiry against the concerned Junior Officer, though he has not been suspended yet,” sources said.
When Herald contacted, Executive Engineer Sivasankaran K said, “Presently there is no complaint lodged by anyone against the junior officer, however as someone has posted the video which shows our Junior Engineer demanding bribe, the department have taken note of the same and have started the inquiry. The matter is thoroughly being investigated. Today our Deputy Director had come down to Vasco to record the statement of JE Vishvesh Bhat and one lineman whose name is mentioned in the You Tube video. Further directions are awaited from the head office.”
