PANJIM: The Vaman Vriksha Kala Udyan (bonsaigarden) at the Goa Raj Bhavan, set up with the initiative of Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai, is now the biggest bonsai collection among official establishments/administrative Institutes, in India.
“The ‘Vaman Vriksha Kala Udyan’ at Raj Bhavan Goa, comprises of an assemblage collection of 1000 potted bonsai trees, placed in the lawns of Raj Bhavan. Now, as a part of the Udyan and Indian medicinal heritage, statues of Acharya Charaka (father of Ayurveda) and Sage Susruta (father of Surgery) willbe installed in the garden of Raj Bhavan,” an official press release stated.

Sage Susruta also known as the Father of Surgery was not only a well known medical practitioner in India, but also across the world, The Susruta Samhita is among the most important ancient medical treatises and is one of the fundamental texts of the medical tradition in India, along with the Charak Samhita.
The statue of Sage Susruta is also on display at the renowned Royal Australian College of Surgeons, Melbourne.
“The work of making the statues of Acharya Charakaand Susrutahas already started and will be completedby the end of August. To commemorate this innovative concept, the Raj Bhavan will be holding a programme on August 7, where the commencement of the work of installing the statues will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, in the presence of the governor and others,” the release informed.
On the occasion, Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai will also distribute cheques to cancer patients, through his discretionary funds.
