Iran has sought to reassure India over concerns surrounding the strategic Strait of Hormuz, stating that Indian interests remain secure despite ongoing tensions in the region.
In a message shared on social media platform X, the Embassy of Iran in India said that its “Indian friends” need not worry about the situation in the crucial maritime route.
The assurance comes in the wake of heightened conflict following reported strikes by Israel and the United States on Tehran on February 28, which disrupted shipping activity in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz, controlled by Iran, is one of the world’s most vital energy corridors, handling nearly 20 percent of global oil and gas transportation. Since the escalation of hostilities, Iran has significantly restricted maritime traffic through the passage.
However, Iranian authorities have indicated that access is being granted to what they describe as “friendly nations.” These include India, China, Russia, Iraq, and Pakistan, ensuring continued movement of essential energy supplies for these countries.
The statement is expected to ease concerns in India, which relies heavily on energy imports passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
