Amid rising tensions in West Asia, Iran extended a message of appreciation to India after an Indian-flagged LPG tanker successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel, Green Sanvi, was the seventh Indian ship to pass through the crucial route despite ongoing conflict in the region.
Responding to Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi’s post calling the development a “victory for Indian diplomacy”, the Iranian Consulate in Mumbai highlighted the deep historical ties between the two nations. It noted that India, particularly Gujarat, holds a special place in shared history, referencing centuries-old cultural and trade connections.

The tanker was carrying over 46,000 metric tonnes of LPG and is now headed towards India. So far, six vessels have safely reached Indian ports, while several others remain stranded near the strategic chokepoint.
The Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy corridor handling nearly 20 percent of the world’s oil supply, has seen disruptions due to the conflict. Iran has restricted access to certain vessels but continues to allow passage to what it calls “friendly nations”, including India.
The situation has also pushed global crude oil prices close to the 100 dollar per barrel mark.
