PANJIM: Students with disabilities will be allowed to answer Board exams with the support of junior students, who will be appointed as readers or writers. Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) took this decision at a meeting last month. This concession will be applicable for Class X and Class XII students with special needs.
“The candidate of Class X shall be allowed to make use of a reader/writer from Class VIII, that is, two classes lower than the examination for which the candidate is appearing,” reads a circular issued by the newly appointed Board Secretary Shivakumar Jangam on Wednesday. A candidate appearing for the Class XII examination will be allowed to make use of a reader/writer from Class XI.
The relief comes with a condition as the Board has instructed heads of institutions to ensure that the reader/writer should not be from the same stream. “If the candidate is from the Science stream, the reader/writer should be from Arts/Commerce stream and if the candidate is from vocational stream, then reader/writer should be from different trade/course,” it explains.
For the secondary schools, the circular stated that all subjects with subject codes offered by the candidate should be mentioned and schoolteacher will have to sign an undertaking taking responsibility towards coaching of additional subject.
