MARGAO: Alleging that the recently held ‘Zomnivoile Khell’ competition was not judged properly, a group of khell directors who participated in the competition have demanded ‘justice’.
Addressing a press conference at Margao on Tuesday, the directors also pointed fingers at the jury members, claiming that they did not possess enough knowledge of ‘zomnivoile khell’ to judge the competition.
Anthony de Ambaji, one of the directors, opined that the results of the competition were totally wrong, and pointed out that the Tiatr Academy of Goa has presented certificates without writing the names of the award winners.
The directors have filed a complaint in this regard, with the Tiatr Academy and the State Art and Culture Department.
“The jury members have selected the groups that violated the rules, while denying prizes to the khell which were presented in the traditional format. The jury members had poor knowledge of ‘zomnivoile khell’ and hence, have done great injustice to the groups and artistes that deserved the award,” he alleged.
He also demanded a mark-sheet of the results.
“Our group had presented ‘zomnivoile khell’ in the format given by the organizers. Shockingly, prizes were given to the group that had not followed the rules and regulations of ‘zomnivoile khell,” said senior artist Jose Mascarenhas.
He said they have raised their voices in the hope that such injustice is not repeated in the coming years. “We want to know what mistakes we had made, what reasons the jury had to deny us the prizes,” he added.
Tiatr Academy of Goa had hosted the 12th ‘Zomnivoile Khell’ competition from February 24 to 26 at Panjim, and 12 tiatr groups had participated in it.
The directors clarified that they have no issue with the Tiatr Academy but were doubtful of the jury members.
