KTC revenue up by 9 percent in May

The loss making Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) has registered almost nine percent growth in its revenue after the implementation of sixth pay commission to its workers.
“The revenue of KTCL has gone up by almost eight to nine percent for the month of May. All credit goes to the workers and our staff,” KTCL managing director Venancio Furtado told Herald.
On June 9, the KTCL management and the union had a joint meeting, where various lacunaes in functioning were discussed.
Furtado said that increase is mainly attributed to various steps taken by the corporation to control revenue leakages.
“At the time of sixth pay implementation, the workers were warned against corrupt practices which results in the revenue loss. We had taken strict measures to check that tickets are given to the passengers. The checking of conductors is been done on regular bases as well as the tickles passengers are fined. These actions helped us in increasing our revenue for the month,” he said.
Furtado said that the workers in coordination with the KTCL staff have done a great job in controlling the loss of revenue.
“Our target is to cut down the maximum cost and increase the revenue,” he added.
Although, as per the agreement between union and management signed during implementation of sixth pay commission, there is provision for its revival if performance of the workers is not satisfactory, the recently held meeting had no discussion on the same.
“We are satisfied with the way workers are cooperating and working to bring KTCL out of financial rid. Hence there is no decision on reviving the pay scale,” Furtado stated. The KTCL will be having yet another meeting next month.
At the time of sixth pay implementation, the workers were asked to raise the corporation’s revenue by at least 10 per cent during the initial months as the pay scale has translate into additional liability of Rs 43 crore and monthly liability of Rs 1.3 crore for the corporation.
Since last one month, the corporation has injected several fiscal measures to improve the functioning of KTCL and to increase the revenue.
The corporation has also opened a helpline for the passengers to inform about the misdeeds of their staff and accordingly, four of its conductors are suspended, while in two cases the inquiry is on and two are grounded for fetching additional ticket fares from the passengers.
