PANJIM: Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTC) that saved the day for the tourism industry during the strike by the taxi operators, ferried almost 10,500 passengers from Dabolim airport to Candolim-Calangute.
Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited general manager Sanjay Ghate said the corporation engaged over 65 buses, of which 45 plied from the airport to Calangute, while 22 operated at three important railway stations.
“We operated 20 buses from standby position which we keep in case of breakdown and diverted some buses from schools, along with scheduled buses to transport tourists,” he said.
He said Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited made 343 trips from the airport to Calangute with 45 buses, 106 trips from Thivim railway station with 12 buses, 61 trips from Karmali railway station with eight buses, and 21 trips from Margao with only two buses on all three days.
He said that KTC earned almost Rs 15.50 lakh on these three days, of which Rs 14.50 lakh has came from Dabolim airport alone.
“One thing we have realised is that a majority of the tourists that arrive at Dabolim airport travel to Calangute and Candolim in North Goa, so we will be taking a call over a review in few days,” Ghate said.

Frequency of buses at airport will be increased: KTC
Following the strike by taxi operators leading to tourists being stranded at different locations and to control further damage to the tourism industry, Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTC) has decided to operate more buses from Dabolim airport to favoured tourism destinations.
KTC managing director Derrick Pereira Neto said the corporation is operating two buses form the airport to Calangute and will be adding more buses. “We are going to increase the frequency of buses from the airport by putting more four buses that will operate from the airport to Candolim and Calangute,” he said.
Neto said that one more bus will start from the airport to Mobor-Cavelossim via Margao. “We have received a representation from the Airport Director that travellers prefer luxury buses and hence we have decided to procure five Volvo buses,” he said.
