MERCES, JAN 30
The gram sabha of the Curca-Telaulim-Bambolim Panchayat, which was conducted in the panchayat office, saw participation of a large number of villagers, but the space was not enough to accommodate all of them, which forced some locals to participate in the proceedings from outside.
However, most of them were left disappointed as they could not hear a thing of what was going on inside.
The villagers told Herald that they have been demanding holding of gram sabha in a spacious place, but the panchayat has failed to fulfil their demands.
When contacted, Sarpanch Subhash Dias said earlier they were conducting the meeting in a government school.
“However, every time a gram sabha is held, we have to take permission from the ADEI to get the premises rented,” he said and added that this time around the panchayat failed to take permission and hence had to hold the meeting in the panchayat office.Subhash further said that the panchayat has already set in motion the process of acquiring land near the panchayat so that a spacious panchayat ghar could be built.
