Authorities in Ladakh have filed charges against Congress Councilor Phuntsog Stanzin Tsepag following violent clashes in the region that left at least four people dead and around 90 injured. The government has also attributed the unrest to provocative speeches by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk.
The violence erupted yesterday, with mobs reportedly burning down the BJP office in Ladakh and the Ladakh Hill Council Secretariat. In response, curfew was imposed in Leh district, and security forces including the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, CRPF, and local police were deployed to restore order. Restrictions have also been enforced in Kargil amid calls for statehood and constitutional safeguards for Ladakh.

The BJP accused the Congress of instigating the violence and released images purportedly showing Councilor Tsepag among the mob. Lt Governor Kavinder Gupta described the clashes as a conspiracy and vowed action against all involved. Following these developments, police registered an FIR and named Tsepag for his alleged role in violence and arson.
The incident has intensified political tensions in the region, raising concerns over security and governance in Ladakh.
