Laundry shop gutted at Assagao, loss pegged at Rs 8 lakh

ASSAGAO: A laundry shop located near Anand bar and restaurant at char rasta, Assagao was gutted in a fire on Friday early morning resulting in a loss of around Rs 8 lakhs.
As per the statement of the owner of Santosh Laundry, a short circuit is suspected to be the cause of the accident.
According to the informant, the incident took place on Thursday late night and he brought the incident to the notice of the Mapusa fire station on Friday at 12.27 am.
An official from the fire department said that on receiving the call the fire officials rushed to the site but by then the laundry unit was completely gutted. “On reaching the site we began with the cooling operation with the help of specialized firefighting equipment. We noticed that there was no sign of recurrence of the fire and returned to the fire station at 1.44 a.m,” he told.
The laundry shop is owned by Krishna Swami who provides laundry services to the hotels. In the fire the items that were destroyed and damaged included a big washing machine, dryer, three hydro machines, two small dryers, clothes and a scooter. The total estimate of the direct damage incurred in Rs. 8,00,000 approximately while the estimate of property saved is Rs. 70,000.
