CALANGUTE/PERNEM: Five tourists, including two from Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan, were saved by lifeguards in four separate incidents at Calangute and Arambol beaches.
According to reports, a 23-year-old tourist from Kerala entered in a non-swim zone at Calangute beach when lifeguard requested him to move at a swim zone. As the tourist was under the influence of alcohol, he ignored the instruction and continued at the same location. A little while later the victim experienced an inward pull due to underwater current and was unable to float. Lifeguards rushed to his aid and rescued him.
In another incident at Calangute beach, three tourists entered in a non-swim zone, when a 29-year-old tourist from Belgaum was unable to float and asked for help. Lifeguards noticed the victim in distress and rushed to the spot and secured him and safely brought him ashore.
At Arambol, a group of four friends were swimming in a non-swim zone near Sweet Lake point. After some time, two tourists from Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan ventured in deeper waters and felt an inward pull due to rip current. Lifeguards secured both the victims safely. In another incident at Arambol beach, a 25-year-old tourist from Andhra Pradesh while swimming was pulled due to underwater currents. Lifeguard rushed to the spot and rescued him.
