MARGAO: Law enforcing agencies, beware! Bootleggers smuggling liquor out of Goa via the Konkan railway route seem to be experimenting with novel ways of hoodwinking the men-in-uniform.
In a modus operandi, which caught the Railway Protection Force by surprise, a group of bootleggers made an abortive bid to export liquor bottles in packaged form resembling rubber tyres.
The incident came to light when PSI Anjanapa along with a RPF constable was on a routine check of the Margao Railway Station before the departure of the Konkan Kanya to Mumbai.
“Suddenly we came across two persons transporting packaged goods in the form of tyres. When we asked them to open the packed item, they made good their escape by abandoning the consignment. When we opened the consignment, we found 1,420 bottles of different brands of liquor bottles, valued at Rs 75,000 in the market,” informed Ajanapa. He said the duo escaped from the station premises, since only two personnel were on duty at that relevant time. The RPF have booked a case against unknown persons in connection with the seizure.
