MARGAO: This may seem strange, but true that waste water from a fish factory based at Marcel-Ponda is finding its way into the Margao’s underground sewerage line.
Tuesday saw around three-four huge tankers unloading thousands of liters of waste water from the Marcel-based fish factory into the underground line behind the KTC bus stand. The tankers coolly unloaded the waste waters in the manhole earmarked for sewerage.
When questioned, one of the tanker drivers told newsmen that they have come from a fish factory from Marcel-Ponda and are unloading the waste waters after obtaining the necessary permission.
Incidentally, when Herald contacted concerned PWD officials, they confirmed having granted the necessary permission for the tankers to unload the waste waters after payment of fees. The PWD has charged each tanker a fee of Rs 500, a senior PWD official informed.
What has left many an eyewitness shocked and surprised over the fact that the waste fish water has come all the way from Marcel in Ponda. A senior PWD official even stated that unloading fish waste water into the underground line will in no way affect the sewerage treatment at the treatment plant at Sirvodem.
