The Panjim Head Post Office, which serves as Goa’s main postal hub, has been witnessing long queues and inconvenience to customers after reportedly keeping only one counter open for registered and speed post services during peak hours.
The sudden decision has led to overcrowding and long waiting times for the public, especially during morning hours when the footfall is highest. According to visitors, the second counter functions only from 1 pm to 9 pm, covering non-peak hours and offering little relief to those visiting earlier in the day.
Residents have expressed frustration, pointing out that the Panjim Head Post Office — being the central postal facility for the entire state — should ensure smoother operations and adequate staffing.
Several locals have also alleged that since the Panjim Head Post Office falls under the Maharashtra postal circle, it faces step-motherly treatment, resulting in service delays and administrative indifference that inconvenience Goans.
Citizens have urged postal authorities to restore full counter operations during peak timings to ease the situation and improve customer service.
After several complaints from customers over long queues and slow service, the Panjim Head Post Office has opened a second counter for registered and speed post transactions. However, operations remain disrupted as the computer system at the new counter is reportedly not functioning properly, leaving customers still waiting in line.
