Mad rush at Margao Wholesale Fish Market, safety norms neglected

MARGAO: Wholesale Fish Market in Margao reopened on Tuesday after a gap of more than a month. However, a mad rush witnessed in the early hours, failed to maintain the COVID-19 safety protocols.

The Wholesale Fish Traders Association was urging the authorities to allow them to operate their business for a long time. 

A day before, a delegation of the association had a meeting with Nuvem MLA and Chairman of South Goa Planning Development Authority Wilfred D’Sa, with regards to reopening of the market and the plea was accepted, with the strict condition to follow all the safety norms. 

However, it was noticed that there no social distancing maintained with a few wearing mask. 

The market was allowed to operate from 3 am to 7 am.
