MARGAO: Madel residents have written to the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) expressing their concerns over the putting up of stalls along the roads during the feast fair.
They have sought transparency through RTI, probing MMC’s past actions. In this regard, Savio Dias of Madel Grande submitted an RTI application on Monday, addressing grievances related to the allocation of fair stalls in parking areas in Madel and other related problems.

In the comprehensive letter, Dias sought information on actions initiated by MMC in response to complaints received on November 29, 2022, December 5, 2022, and May 9, 2023. The letter delved into permissions from the South Goa Collector, conditions for noise-polluting stalls, and concerns about fire incidents during the fair.
Dias questioned the MMC’s efforts in enforcing parking arrangements, the duration of the fair, sanitation practices, and adherence to HC directives. Additionally, he inquired about correspondence with the South Goa District Collector.
The letter covered various aspects, including water supply, safety measures, compliance with court orders, and the number of CCTV cameras installed for security.
In his letter Dias stated, “Earlier, these fairs were held for only three days, now these are held for eight days and continue for 15 to 20 days? How many days can these fairs continue when the area itself is prime parking land? Has MMC taken cognisance of this issue with what steps?”
Green Goa Foundation (GGF) chairman Raison Almeida threatened to file a contempt petition in the High Court against MMC, citing non-compliance with 2010 petition orders on the Margao feast fair.
Earlier, the GGF had accused the MMC of contempt for not following HC directives, including safety measures and installation of CCTV cameras, during the feast fair in December.
Almeida claimed the health instructions and cleanliness issues were neglected and MMC failed to provide drinking water as per court orders.
