Former transport minister and Cumbharjua MLA Pandurang Madkaikar has been appointed as chairman of Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe Commission with Cabinet status. Madkaikar was dropped from the Cabinet about two years ago to accommodate MGP MLA Sudin Dhavlikar.
The Cumbharjua MLA since the last two years had been lobbying hard to get back his place in the Cabinet but his moves were not successful. Those close to the MLA said it appears for now he would have to be content with chairmanship of the SC & ST Commission.
