CANACONA: A major mishap was averted after an inter-state truck crushed a parked two-wheeler at Chaudi-Canacona on Sunday.
According to reports, the truck (RJ-19-GA-3610) was proceeding towards Margao, when it suddenly swirled to its side onto the parking space across the NH17 in front of Nagarshekar building at Chaudi, where several establishments like chemist shop and gas service outlet are located.
The truck hit and crushed the parked motorcycle, causing severe damage to it.
Soon a huge crowd gathered at the site and fearing reprisal by public over rash and negligent driving of the truck, police took truck driver Babulan Virdharamji Vashnavi in their custody.
According to police sources, the driver, who reported brake failure was later released.
Sources at the site informed that being a Sunday, not many vehicles were parked otherwise the area is mostly busy with hustle-bustle of several visitors and parked vehicles at the site.
