PANJIM: Goa government has said that by September major police stations in the state will be staffed with two police inspectors, who will look after law and order, and investigations, separately.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the House Tuesday that the government is trying to differentiate between the types of policing, by offering separate officer for different functions of police stations. “There will be normal policing and also criminal investigation, which would be separated from each other,” he said.

Parrikar stated that the initially Panjim police station will have two Inspectors, followed by Mapusa, Calangute, Colva, Pernem, Margao and Vasco, which are prime police stations in the state. Admitting that those incharge of police station are undergoing immense stress as they have to look after both the duties, Parrikar said this step would ease their stress.
Calangute MLA Michael Lobo had raised the issue of having two inspectors while speaking during the demands for grants for Police. He said that the police station such as Calangute has only 76 policemen and has to man 60,000-70,000 tourists, along with locals and migrant population.
Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte blamed police for Singham-style functioning, which yields no concrete results. “The police are acting in Singham style only to harass common people on the road. Their style of functioning don’t yield any results for crime detection,” he alleged.
