Mapusa police station head constable held for rape

ANJUNA: A police head constable from Moira has been arrested on charges of raping a girl from Arambol-Pernem, when he was accused of duping the victim after promising to marry her.

ANJUNA: A police head constable from Moira has been arrested on charges of raping a girl from Arambol-Pernem, when he was accused of duping the victim after promising to marry her.
Head Constable Rupesh Narvekar, who is attached to the Mapusa police station as PC Driver Escort, was arrested by Mapusa police following a complaint by the victim, who accused Narvekar of having a sexual relationship with her on multiple occasions from 2010 to November 2014 after assuring to marry her.
The case was later transferred to the Anjuna police station, as the crime is alleged to have taken place in Siolim.
According to Anjuna police, Narvekar met the victim while she was doing a beautician course in Mapusa and befriended her. The accused head constable then had sexual relations with the victim at a flat in Siolim and after promising to get married to her, police said.
In January 2015, the victim noticed the head constable with another girl and on January 5, she confronted him about his relationship with that woman. The head constable denied having any affair with another girl.
The victim then asked Narvekar to marry her and when he refused to do so, she felt duped and decided to file a police complaint with Mapusa police on January 7.
Acting on the complaint, Mapusa police arrested the head constable and later the case was transferred to Anjuna police station as the incident took place in Siolim.
The accused head constable has been booked under Section 376 IPC (rape) and presently is in the Anjuna Police Station cell. PI Paresh Naik and PSI Mahesh Naik are investigating the case.
