PONDA: The Marcaim gram sabha on Sunday opposed the “illegal” grant of two lakh square meters of comunidade land to Swami Vidyadiraj Tirth having its registered office at Partgal, Cancona.
The villagers say allotment of comunidade land to the trust is illegal.
According to a gram sabha resolution, the Vidyadiraj Tirth is not eligible for allotment of plots under the Code of Comunidade and hence illegal.
The villagers said that there was no land for housing in the village, therefore, allotting land to the Muth of a particular community will deprive all the villagers their right to buy a piece of land in their own village. Therefore, the villagers said, the panchayat should challenge the land allotment to the muth immediately.
According to the villagers, Marcaim needs land for garbage, market project, fire station, police station and housing.
“There are farmers and they need grazing ground for cattle. Allotting land to the muth of one particular community will not help the villagers. Comunidade land should prove beneficial to all the communities,” the villagers argue.
According to the Code of Comunidade, those already having land, including charitable trusts, are not entitled to get comunidade land. Since Partagal Muth already has vast land admeasuring three lakh square metres in Cancona, the trust is not entitled for further allotment, the villagers contended.
The villagers also opposed settlement of migrant labourers on comunidade land asked the panchayat to initiate strict action.
The villagers also passed a resolution opposing transportation of scrap towards Marcaim ferry as vehicles gets punctured due to scrap material falling on road during transportation.
Earlier, the panchayat refused to grant NOC for erecting fencing around the land owned by the Vidyadiraj trust. The latter then appealed to the Director of Panchayats who allowed permission for fencing the plot. However, the Marcaim Panchayat has challenged the order of Director of Panchayat in district court Panjim.
Villager Mayu Gavde said that he and many other villagers had applied for a plot of Comunidade land, but their applications were never considered. However, when Partgal muth asked for allotment of land, the Comunidade readily allotted two lakh square meters of land at throwaway price, he complained.
