Margao carnival float parade route changed

Margao: The Margao Carnival will be celebrated from February 7 to 9. The parade will be held on the first day and cultural programmes on the other two days.

The parade route has been shifted to Fatorda and will begin at the Colva Circle and end at Borkar’s Super Stores near Damodar Ling.
“The police have appealed us to change the parade route as the roads in the town have been dug up and it will be unfair to hold the parade in Margao,” said Babita Angle, Chairperson of Margao Municipal Council (MMC).
The carnival committee formed by the MMC has made T-shirts with caricatures of coconut trees and a slogan ‘Save Coconut Tree, Save Goenkaarponn’.
The government has given the MMC Rs 26 lakh, including Rs 6 lakh as prize money, for the carnival. Some of the events include performances by famous Konkani singers, stand-up comedians and top bands and performers from across the country.
Day 1 will see the Carnival float parade, which includes the top floats in Goa espousing the carnival heritage of the State. Mumtaz Shaikh will be Queen Momo for the parade. The parade will be followed by a musical evening at the SGPDA ground.
On Day 2, a kid’s theme park – the first of its kind in Goa – will be set up at the SGPDA parking lot and will include bouncing castles, cartoon character mascots, games and surprises. On Day 3, a musical programme, including Goan folk music, will be held.
All programs will be held at the SGPDA ground and the pickup stand.
