MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council on Wednesday vowed to implement the bio-metric finger scan readers on coming Tuesday, but Municipal employees maintained that they will use the scan readers only if they are satisfied with written replies to their queries.
MMC Chief Officer Deepali Naik had a meeting with the office bearers of the Goa Municipal Employees Association led by Keshav Prabhu as per the High court directions to the Chief Officer to seek suggestions from the employees before implementing the bio-scan reader.
After the meeting, the Chief Officer later told newsmen that bio-metric readers are universally accepted and even implemented in each and every municipal body. “I fail to understand why the same is not implemented in the Margao civic body. During the meeting, the employees said they want to make some suggestions. They have been told to give the suggestions by Friday and we will give our reply by Monday. The bio-metric reader will be implemented from Tuesday or Wednesday,” she asserted.
Replying to a query, she said the bio-finger scan reader will not be made applicable for field staff, but visiting and inspection diaries will keep track of their timings.
On the other hand, Keshav Prabhu said the employees are per se not opposed to bio-metric scan readers, but added that employees are not satisfied with the arrangements in Margao municipality. “We want the replies in writing. If we are satisfied, we will think of the bio-metric readers. We have no problem with the system if we are satisfied with our queries,” he said, but asserted that someone should not make any attempt to force the proposal on the employees without satisfying them on their host of queries.
