PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has convened a special cabinet meeting at 11 am on Monday, to discuss Goa’s stand following Central Water Commission (CWC) approving Karnataka’s revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Kalasa-Bhandura dam project.

After the Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister will also chair all MLAs meeting to be held in the PAC room of Goa Assembly Complex, Porvorim at 4 pm, to discuss the Mhadei issue.
In view of the meeting, Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao has called a meeting of all seven opposition legislators in his chamber at 2 pm on to discuss and decide on the stand to be taken by them in the larger interest of Goa and Goans.
“Our lifeline (Mhadei) needs to protected at any cost”, said Yuri.
The Opposition Leader had already demanded that the Chief Minister, who has claimed that Mhadei is more than mother, should take the lead in submitting resignations of all 40 MLAs to protect interest of Goa on River Mhadei. The Congress party is also exploring all options to challenge the decision of the Central Water Commission Court in the Court.
On the other hand, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called a meeting of its core committee at the party headquarters, Panjim on Monday afternoon to discuss the Mhadei river issue. Union Minister of State for Tourism Shripad Naik has said that he is ready to resign if the Centre does not listen to Goa’s demand to withdraw the approval to the Karnataka’s DPR for Kalasa-Bhandura project.
Water Resources Minister Subhash Shirodkar has also stated that the Central government has committed injustice to Goa and has given weightage to Karnataka by taking one-sided decision.
