MARGAO: A vigilant resident of Guirdolim, Savio Antao caught a migrant dumping garbage by the roadside at Pocklemol on October 19 and immediately called the police to take action against the person who is staying on rental basis in the premises of one Ravi in Curtorim.
Apparently there are ten rooms rented out by Ravi and all the tenants dump their garbage by the roadside opting for the area bordering Curtorim and Guirdolim. PSI Amin Naik disclosed that he had fined each of the tenants Rs 100 and collected Rs 1000 from them for dumping garbage by the roadside.
“I had also directed the land owner to dispose of the garbage dumped by the roadside,” he said. However, instead of disposing the garbage properly, the landlord adopted the easiest but dangerous method of burning the garbage.
“What is the use of filing complaint, if they just burn the garbage?” asked Savio, who was also upset that police personnel did not take up any responsibility to ensure that the garbage was scientifically disposed.
