Cancel charges for using Citizen Service Centres, demands AAP

MARGAO: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday presented a memorandum to South Goa Collector Tariq Thomas demanding the immediate cancellation of the charges levied for using the Citizen Service Centres.
The AAP also demanded that the Transport Department offices be brought under one roof.
Addressing media persons, AAP Convener Ernesto Morais said that the government has introduced the Citizen’s Service Centre not to provide any benefit to the people but to only loot them.
He pointed out that every person is forced to pay Rs 59 additional amount for using this service besides the normal fees levied for whatever document one seeks. While Rs 50 is the charge for using the Citizen’s Service Centre Rs 9 is collected as 18 per cent Goods and Service Tax.
Pointing out that the AAP government in Delhi is providing 40 government services at the persons door step for a mere Rs 50 wherein a government official comes to the house to fill up the required form and the document is also delivered to the person’s house between 9 am and 7 pm.
“The government of Goa would do well to offer such a service to people instead of making them stand in long queues in the government offices besides charging them Rs. 59 extra for no extra or special service,” he said.
While pointing out that citizens are made to run to three different places for documents of the Transport Department as the department offices are at two different places and the payments have to be made at the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex, AAP demanded that the government bring the offices under one roof.
“There is so much of space at the Matanhy Saldanha Complex and as such it would be better if both the Transport Department offices at Arlem and Osia Complex be shifted there where people have to go to make payments in any case,” he said.
