MARGAO: South Goa Collector Tariq Thomas reportedly assured Caitano Fernandes from Gorvotti Nuvem that the demolition of the illegal structure erected by Jose Inacio Fernandes would surely be carried out on the next date fixed for it.
It may be recalled that five times this demolition has not taken place as someone or the other remained absent: the PWD workers or the JCB or the police personnel.
On October 11, the demolition did not take place as the PWD workers failed to turn up with the JCB machine and the police did not turn up. Following Caitano’s complaint, the collector investigated the matter and assured the complainant that the demolition would take place on the next date.
Apparently, the panchayat secretary did not intimate all the departments concerned about the demolition and that was the reason why the police and PWD were not present on October 11.
It may be recalled that the structure was first ordered to be demolished on December 28, 2016 and on that date the police did not turn up to provide protection. Thereafter, the demolition was scheduled on November 1, 2017 and on that date the police said they could not provide force as they were pre-occupied with another matter. The demolition was then scheduled on April 26, 2018 and on that date the PWD workers did not turn up with the JCB. The demolition was then scheduled on April 20, 2018 and on that date the PWD workers again failed to turn up with the JCB; and on October 11 again the PWD workers did not turn up with the JCB and so did the police.
