PANJIM: Goa’s MPs have petitioned Union Finance Minister (State) Shiv Pratap Shukla demanding financial support to the State in the wake of the mining crisis.
Lok Sabha MPs Shripad Naik (Union AYUSH Minister), Narendra Sawaikar and Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar on Thursday met the Union Minister and discussed the financial situation that has arisen as a result of mining operations closure in the State.
“Discussed with Finance (MOS) the situation arising out of mining ban. Demanded financial support to overcome the crisis and also in resolving the issue.
He patiently heard and assured the required support,” Sawaikar tweeted on Friday.
The iron ore mining industry in Goa has been placed under suspension since March 16 after the Supreme Court quashed and set aside the second renewals granted to 88 mining leases.
The State has claimed a loss of over Rs 3500 crore to the State exchequer, while over two lakh people have been rendered jobless.
