MAPUSA: The Minister for Waste Management, Michael Lobo, has assured to tackle the garbage menace in the State starting with the formation of a garbage committee and follow up on the Bainguinim garbage plant after the public hearing is completed
Speaking on the sidelines at a function in Mapusa, Lobo said that there would be a public hearing on the proposed Bainguinim plant and with the permission from Union environment ministry it would be launched.
“The former CM, late Manohar Parrikar had formed the Garbage Management Corporation in 2014 and a plant was later set up at Saligao. This plant is overburdened and not sufficient to handle the garbage coming in from across the State. A committee will be constituted to study the garbage problem constituency wise and accordingly a solution will be worked out,” Lobo said.
The recently inducted minister said that there were many cases related to the Mundkar Act pending before the mamlatdars which need to be resolved.
“There is an urgent need to resolve these pending cases and it will be taken up on priority,” Lobo said.
