MARGAO: Tensions continue to simmer in Cavelossim following the heated gram sabha that took place on Sunday, over the illegal road issue at the property belonging to cricketer Aashish Nehra as well as the sand bangs issue on a small portion of Mobor beach.

While the debate over what type of development is wanted in the village continues between the opposing groups, there were counter exchanges between Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas and Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz.
The MLA asserted that the Cavelossim Village Panchayat had not done enough in regard to the road issue.
Viegas also questioned the action taken by the panchayat in giving a fine to the owners, which he said did not address the issue of sand dune destruction. The MLA also recalled that the panchayat had asked the government to intervene with the sand erosion issue and is now criticising the sand bags placed there as an anti-erosion measure, to create a diversion.
However, Vaz rejected the charges and said the shoddy state of the sand bags at Mobor, directly speaks about how badly the situation has been managed.
The Sarpanch added that he had asked for anti-erosion measures right from the starting point of the beach and not for one small portion where the sand bags were placed following a work order issued by the Water Resources Department (WRD). It may be recalled that Vaz had asked WRD to initiate action against the contractor.
The Sarpanch further said he had documents to prove that the MLA had pushed for the use of sand bags at the site and the panchayat was not intimated about this measure.
Regarding the ruckus at the gram sabha and recent developments, the Sarpanch questioned the intention in creating a divide amongst the local villagers.
