MARGAO: Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva has moved a private member bill seeking official status for Romi Konkani, while St Andre MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh moved a similar bill for granting official status to Romi Konkani as well as Marathi. Both the MLAs moved their bills on Wednesday for the upcoming Assembly session.
“Ever since I became an MLA, I had a desire to pitch for Romi Konkani as the official language, and this private member bill is an effort towards the same,” said Caitu, adding, “I had spoken to some MLAs of Salcete recently and they have said that they will support me in this endeavour.”
Meanwhile, Wagh informed via text message, “I have submitted a new private members bill for official language status to Marathi as well as Konkani in Romi script. (I have) submitted the bill today.”
