MMC demolishes extension of 4 shops in Gandhi market

MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council on Wednesday demolished illegal extensions of four shops in Gandhi market. The shops had not only covered the open spaces outside their premises, which are to be kept open, but were also using the space for business.

MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council on Wednesday demolished illegal extensions of four shops in Gandhi market. The shops had not only covered the open spaces outside their premises, which are to be kept open, but were also using the space for business.
MMC had served notices to the shops at earlier occasions. The civic officials had to finally carried out demolition of the extensions. The shops were asked to restore the compulsory pathway and open space as per the approved plan in the stipulated time given in the notice. It had been made clear in the notice that the MMC would demolish the extensions without any further intimation.
The MMC Officials on Wednesday removed encroachments of at least five commercial establishments in the new market area. These establishments had made extensions of tin-sheet roof and the names of their establishments blocking the pathway of people. 
These establishments have been asked to remove the same on several occasions but failed to comply. There was an attempt being made to disrupt the demolition and sensing problem police force was called. However the drive finished smoothly. 
MMC Chief Officer informed that the drive would continue all over Margao.
