PORVORIM: Mapusa Municipal Council has started taking stern action against the business community and professionals who have not obtained trade licences from the municipality.
The Accounts officer of Mapusa Municipal Council Bhanudas Naik stated that as per the Municipal Act the business establishment and professionals such as medical practitioners, lawyers and architects are required to obtain trade licenses from MMC to commence business activities. But the MMC has discovered some of the business establishments and professionals did not have such trade licences. Further, MMC has so far issued trade licences to 6711 business establishments but most of them have not renewed the same. The MMC has deputed its inspectors to visit each and every business establishment and professionals operating within the jurisdiction of MMC to verify who did not obtain or renew trade licenses and take necessary action against them immediately, said Naik.
Naik further said that the MMC has so far issued show cause notices to 632 business establishments/professionals out of whom 582 person have applied for trade licences.
During the financial year 2014-15, the MMC has earned revenue of Rs 35.79 lakh from business establishments and professionals, said Naik adding, if all the business establishments and professionals obtained trade licences /renew their licences there would be substantial increase in the revenue of MMC.
