VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Deepali Naik is forming a team to carry out survey of illegal structures at Khariwado for preparing and submitting a status report to the High Court.
The move comes in the wake of the High Court directive on a petition filed by MPT against illegal structures at Khariwado.
The team would start the survey work from Monday.
“Although we are yet to see the content of the High Court order, we have been asked to carry out survey of all the structures to file a status report before HC in two weeks time. Thus I have asked my officers to make a team of engineers and supervisors along with the help of Vasco police and MPT officials and start its inspection from Monday,” said MMC Chief Officer Deepali Naik.
According to the information, in 2011, 66 houses were demolished out of the 363 encroached houses at Khariawada. The remaining 297 house owners approached the court. Out of the 297 house owners, 194 had signed MOU with the MPT. As per the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 1998, the MPT had assured to rehabilitate them.
Meanwhile, MMC’s Advocate S D Padiyar informed Herald that the High Court did not pass an order for demolition on Thursday; it has only called for status report on the demolition order issued at Khariwado by the MMC.
“Firstly, the news that the houses at Khariwado would be demolished is not true as the HC has only asked to file a status report in two weeks time. Secondly, the Writ Petition 120/2009 is not a new one; thus time to time orders have been passed in this petition. In past, MMC demolished some 66 structures and also filed a report before HC,” he explained.
At the moment the HC has only asked the MMC to identify the structures which are not part of MOU signed in 1998. Also as per some current reports with MMC, there exist some 328 odd structures at Khariwado and thus this survey has to be done only to establish as to how many people are not part of this 194 structures so as to tally with the present list with Municipal council, he said.
“I am sure that this 194 and few others (200) definitely will not be touched till the HC disposes off the old mater and after omitting this 194 plus structure and what remains is some 104 structures,” Padiyar said.
